August is here already…

Warm sunny days in the studio have mostly revived me since my last post here, the studio has shot up to a nice room temperature and it certainly helps the workflow better in terms of the production anyway. This week I am preparing for a top up of my online shop, included will be some lovely shaped vases, wide Fruit Bowls, Pomegranates, Scallop Shells and a few other one of pieces. Mostly in my Oatmeal, Moss green and White mint colours (my classic blue will feature with some of the pomegranates). Be sure to visit my website on Wednesday 13th 7 pm to have a look through.

Apart from the absolute joy of throwing big bowls and vases on the wheel recently, there have been another couple of deliveries of dried flowers to the studio, These arrive in big bunches of each variety, and I arrange them into mixed bouquets. Which is a lovely task because the room fills with the smell of lavender and straw. I’ve gone for a fairly similar colour palette to my previous dried floral arrangements (Orange, green & neutrals) but this time I’ve opted for some more exotic varieties to mix in, such as Protea and Banksia Dryandra for a contrasting pinkish/orange tone. Flowers are kept fairly long lengthwise so you can trim them if needed and are wrapped and ready for studio open days.

My last few batches of pomegranates have been fun to decorate as I deviated from my normal of doing an entire batch of 30 or so in one glaze style, and decided to split them into a few different colours and finishes. My absolute favourite to create were those dipped in my oatmeal glaze and finished with little nature-based motifs hand-painted in blue. Tiny pomegranates, sprigs of elderflower and foliage. Working in such small detail can be prone to bleeding, but I was pleasantly surprised by how crisp the drawings were after the third firing.

And you probably know that I don’t take on commissions, but next time I will show you a special little one that I created for my sister, gold and green features…Until then, I hope Summer has been kind to you and thanks for all your support!
